This January’s BONK! event will be held on Saturday, January 21st from 6 pm to 7:30 pm Central time. The event will be held on Zoom webinar and streamed on Facebook Live at the BONK! Facebook page. Curated, performed,  and hosted by Jessie Lynn McMains, BONK! will also feature Sean Thomas Dougherty and Cindy Emch.

About The Performers

Jessie Lynn McMains was the 2016-17 Poet Laureate of Racine, WI, the winner of the 2019 Hal Prize for Poetry, and the July-December 2021 Racine Writer-in-Residence. They are the author of several books and chapbooks, most recently Left of the Dial (Scumbag Press, 2022) and Wisconsin Death Trip (Bone & Ink Press, 2020). Their spoken word album, Self-Portrait with Ghosts and Trains, was released by Hello America in July 2021. They are also a visual artist, zine-maker, and the editor/owner of Bone & Ink Press. They currently reside in Racine, WI with their partner and children.

 

Sean Thomas Dougherty’s twenty books include The Dead are Everywhere Telling Us Things, winner of the 2021 Jacar Press Poetry Prize, and the forthcoming book of prose poems Death Prefers the Minor Keys (BOA Editions 2023). His book The Second O of Sorrow (BOA Editions 2018) received both the Paterson Poetry Prize, and the Housatonic Book Award. He teaches writing part-time for the Master of Fine Arts Program of WCSU and works as a Med Tech and caregiver for people recovering from traumatic brain injuries in Erie, Pennsylvania.

 

“First Lady of Queer Country” Cindy Emch (Secret Emchy Society) is an Oakland-based singer/songwriter making big voiced, big hearted country music with the swagger of Nick Cave and the soul of Leonard Cohen. Hailed by TheBoot.com as one of ‘Ten Queer Country Bands for Real Country Music Fans to Listen To,’ she has also been a triple nominee for Best Live Band by the Bay Area Reporter, and landed on ‘Best Album of the Year’ lists in 2017, 2018, and 2022. Cindy Emch is a truly raw, honest, and authentic listening experience not to be missed.
